Thousands attended Mausavakalo's Funeral

On the 31st of December 2009, when everyone were look forward for the New Year, more than 3000 football fans gathered together in the Village of Mele South Efate to show their last respect to one of the national defender and hero of Vanuatu football late Ken Mausavakalo who passed away on the 30th of December 2009.

His funeral was attended by the President of Vanuatu Football Federation (VFF) Mr. Lambert Maltock, President of Port Vila Football Association (PVFA) Mr Robert Calvo, President of Amicale Football Club Mr Jean Yves Chabo. After reading Ken Mausavakalo's narrative, these football officials made some remarks and comments. "Late Mausavakalo's absence will be a loss to Amicale Football Club and we would like to dedicate all our next matches to him as our hero" said Mr. Chabo.

President of VFF, Lambert Maltock stated that "it will be difficult to find a replacement for late Mausavakalo in Vanuatu Football". The funeral was also attended by the Vanuatu national football players and coach of Vanuatu beach soccer team Mr. Wilson August. "It will also be difficult to find a replacement and a captain like late Mausavakalo in beach soccer", said Mr. August.

After the funeral service, thousands marched with late Mausavakalo's body from the church to the grave yard. It was the biggest crowd ever witnessed in a funeral especially of a person with football history.

Late masavakalo was winning captain in the Samoa South Pacific Games Bronze Medal playoff. He will certainly be missed.
