The first ever Pacific Youth and Sports Conference (PYASC) opened on Monday at Manukau City, New Zealand.
The conference which was officially opened by FIFA/OFC Football Ambassador, Mr. Christian Karembeu gathered about 1000 young people across the Pacific with the opportunity to meet, interact and discuss certain issues at their own level.
The conference is held at the TelstraClear Pacific Centre in Manukau City from 15-20 March, is organised by OFC and its partners with objectives to build network and involve more young people in sports, and to discuss topics related to health, education, good governance and social integration.
The secretary of OFC and Chairman of the PYASC conference, Mr, Tai Nicholas, speaking on behalf of the OFC, said they are happy to organise the event because football is a popular sport today and in other views, the sport has helped young people in our communities to stay fit and healthy at all times.
OFC has also invited 17 Sports Ministers across the Pacific to attend this conference with a special session to be held tomorrow and Saturday morning.
Vanuatu delegation to this conference arrived in New Zealand over the weekend and Vanuatu Sports Minister, Honourable Raphael Worwor flew out of the country last night to attend the Sports Ministers session.
